Truck Crash

When a truck crash occurs, the consequences for all involved can be catastrophic. Given the size of commercial trucks in comparison to other vehicles on the road, even slow-speed accidents carry the threat of major damages and fatalities. Despite trucks having much less control than other vehicle, the majority of truck accidents are actually the fault of other drivers. Most truck crashes are caused by reasons such as speeding, mechanical failures, driver fatigue, drunk driving and braking failure. In addition, although most truck drivers are not responsible for these accidents, there is a direct correlation between increases in commercial trucks on the road and increases in truck accidents. Additionally, trucks are more likely to be involved in crashes that involve fatalities then passenger vehicles are.

Fast Facts

  • Roughly, 15.5 million commercial trucks are licensed and operating on US roads
  • The NCSA stated that 4,669 large trucks where involved in fatal accidents in 2003
  • Only 1% of truck crashes involved the truck driver being guilty of a DUI
